Custom Bridal Outfits: Planning Your Whole Wedding Wardrobe as One Story

Peach Multicolor Crop Top Lehenga Set from House of Daisy

An Indian bride doesn't wear one outfit. She wears five, six, sometimes eight across the roka, haldi, mehndi, sangeet, wedding and reception. When each one is bought separately, the wardrobe ends up as a set of strangers. Custom bridal outfits, planned together, can tell one story from the first function to the last.

Plan the wardrobe, not just the lehenga

  1. List every function, with the date, day or night, indoor or outdoor, and roughly how long you will be in the outfit.

  2. Choose a thread that runs through all of them: a motif, a colour, your names, a story.

  3. Decide the hero. Usually the wedding lehenga; everything else builds towards it or winds down from it.

  4. Then design each outfit for its function.

Ways to connect the outfits

  • One motif, many sizes: a lotus as tiny butis on the haldi set, a border on the mehndi sharara, a full pond on the wedding lehenga. See lotus motif lehenga.

  • A story told in chapters: how you met on the roka outfit, the proposal on the sangeet, the pheras on the wedding lehenga. Read love story lehenga.

  • Your names in different places: latkans at the mehndi, blouse back at the wedding, dupatta at the reception. See couple name embroidery.

  • A colour journey: yellow to green to pink to red to an evening shade.

  • One theme per function, each carried in the motifs. See theme lehenga for wedding.

Function by function

  • Roka / engagement: elegant and light; a lehenga, saree or gown.

  • Haldi: yellow or a soft alternative, washable, easy to sit in. Read customised haldi outfit for bride.

  • Mehndi: colourful, comfortable, sleeves out of the way of the henna. A sharara or a light lehenga. See customised sharara set.

  • Sangeet: made for dancing: flare, lighter weight, a secure dupatta.

  • Wedding: the hero lehenga, with the heaviest and most personal work.

  • Reception: a gown, saree or evening lehenga. Read customised gown for women.

Practical tips

  • Order together, so one designer sees the whole picture.

  • Measurements once, with a fitting before the first function. See our lehenga measurement chart.

  • Start early. The designer gives you a delivery date for each outfit once its design is approved; the heaviest piece decides how early you need to begin.

  • Plan for re-wearing. A mehndi sharara or reception gown can be worn again at other weddings.
