Custom Sharara Suit

Customised Sharara Set in Gurgaon: For the Mehendi, the Sangeet and Every Twirl

Lime green organza co-ord set from House of Daisy

A sharara set might be the most fun outfit at an Indian wedding. The wide, flared pants swing when you walk, the short kurta keeps it light, and you can dance all night without worrying about a heavy skirt. It is a favourite for mehendi and sangeet, for brides and for everyone around them.

Sharara or gharara?

The two are often confused:

  • A sharara flares from the waist or hip all the way down, like a wide, flowing palazzo.

  • A gharara is fitted to the knee, where it is gathered with a band (often embroidered) before it flares out.

Both can be customised. A gharara is a little more traditional and dramatic; a sharara is easier to move in.

When to wear a sharara set

  • Mehendi: bright colours, gota patti or mirror work, and a short kurta so your hands are free.

  • Sangeet: a little more sparkle, made for dancing. See our guide to sangeet and mehndi outfits for the bride.

  • Haldi: in light cotton or mul. See customised haldi outfits.

  • Wedding guest: a festive look that is easier than a lehenga.

  • Eid and festivals: a classic choice.

What you can customise

The kurta

Short, hip-length, or knee-length; straight, peplum or A-line; any neckline and sleeve length. A short kurta shows off the flare; a longer one feels more formal.

The flare

How wide the sharara is, how many panels, and how it moves. A fuller sharara uses more fabric and looks more dramatic.

The work

Hand embroidery on the kurta yoke, the sharara hem, the gharara band, or all over. Gota, mirror, resham and zardozi all work well. Keep it lighter for daytime, richer for evening.

The dupatta

A sheer dupatta with a border, a heavier embroidered one, or your initials along the edge. See dupattas with names.

Little extras

Latkans on the dori, pockets in the sharara, and a matching potli. See customised latkans.

Fabric choices

  • Georgette and chiffon: the most flow, ideal for dancing.

  • Organza: a little structure and a lovely sheen in photos.

  • Silk and chanderi: richer, for evening functions.

  • Cotton and mul: cool and easy for daytime.

Matching sets for the family

Sharara sets are a popular choice for a bride's sisters and friends at the mehendi or sangeet, in one colour palette with different cuts. Our family and bridesmaid orders page explains how group orders work.
