Nikah Dupatta with Groom Name: Urdu or English

Gold Ivory Lehenga from House of Daisy

At a nikah, the bride's dupatta is worn over her head through the ceremony, so it frames her face in every photo. A nikah dupatta with the groom's name makes that frame personal. We embroider names in Urdu or English, or both, as part of the dupatta's own design.

What to embroider

  • The groom's name along the front border, so it sits just above your forehead.

  • Both names, one on each side.

  • "Qubool hai" or another phrase that matters to you, in Urdu calligraphy.

  • The nikah date, in numerals or written out.

  • A short dua or blessing, if your family would like one. Our designer will place it with care, away from the hem.

Urdu or English?

  • Urdu calligraphy flows beautifully along a border and becomes a decorative motif in itself.

  • English cursive is easy for every guest to read.

  • Both: his name in Urdu on one side, in English on the other.

Send the exact spelling and, for Urdu, a written or printed version of the name, so the lettering is exactly right. Our designer shows you the lettering before it is stitched.

Where the name sits

  • Front border: visible in close-ups when the dupatta is on your head.

  • Back of the dupatta: seen during the walk-in and in photos from behind.

  • Corners: a small name in each corner, framed with motifs.

  • Matching blouse: echo the name on the blouse back. See bridal blouse with groom name.

Fabric and work

  • Net, organza or chiffon sit softly on the head and let the lettering show.

  • Gota, zari or dabka letters catch the light in photos.

  • Tilla or aari work suits fine calligraphy. See Kashmiri lehenga bridal for more on these techniques.

  • Keep the head area light, so the dupatta is comfortable through a long ceremony.

How to order

Bring the wording, a picture of your outfit and any dupatta design you like. You see the layout and the price before anything is cut. Payment is in full in advance, our own karigars do the embroidery, and the designer gives you a delivery date once the design is approved.
