Custom Lehenga Cost

Lehenga Stitching Cost: What Decides the Price of a Customised Lehenga in Gurgaon

Radiant burnt orange lehenga from House of Daisy

"How much will my lehenga cost?" is the first question almost every bride asks, and the honest answer is: it depends on what you want made. A customised lehenga isn't priced by the metre like plain stitching. It's priced by the fabric, the handwork and the hours our karigars spend on it. Here is what actually moves the number, so you can walk into a design meeting knowing where your budget goes.

Stitching a lehenga vs customising one

Stitching means a tailor cuts and sews fabric you already have, usually a semi-stitched lehenga, into your size. The work is mostly cutting, sewing, lining and fitting.

Customising means designing the lehenga with you: choosing the silhouette, the fabric, the colour and the embroidery, and then embroidering it by hand before it is cut and stitched to your measurements. Most of the cost is in the design and the handwork, not the stitching.

At House of Daisy we do the second: customised pieces made by our own karigars, in the same atelier as the designer label Bhumika Sehgal.

The seven things that decide the price

1. The fabric

Raw silk, velvet, brocade, organza, net and georgette all cost different amounts, and a lehenga with many kalis or a big flare needs more of it. If you bring your own fabric, for example an old saree you want turned into a lehenga, the fabric cost changes.

2. How much embroidery, and where

Embroidery only on the hem and blouse is a very different job from embroidery all over the skirt. Coverage is usually the biggest single factor in the price.

3. The kind of embroidery

Fine zardozi, dabka and cutdana take far longer by hand than resham thread or sequins. Some brides mix them: zardozi where it shows most, lighter work elsewhere.

4. Karigar hours

Everything above comes down to time. A heavily embroidered bridal lehenga can take our karigars many weeks of handwork. That time is what you are paying for, and it's why a designer can't quote a price before the design is agreed.

5. The blouse

A plain blouse, a heavily embroidered one, a corset-style fit, a cape or a jacket all change the cost. See our designer blouse guide.

6. The dupatta, or two

A light net dupatta with a border is quick; a fully embroidered one is a project of its own. A second dupatta adds more. Personal touches like names on the dupatta or name latkans add design and embroidery time too.

7. Your timeline

A customised piece takes about eight weeks from design approval. Starting early gives you the most choice. If your wedding is close, tell us the date first, so the designer can plan a design that can be finished in time.

How to get the most from your budget

  • Tell the designer your budget at the start. It isn't awkward; it's the fastest way to a design you love that you can afford.

  • Put the work where the camera goes. The blouse, the dupatta border and the hem show in most photographs.

  • Choose one statement element. A heavy dupatta with a lighter skirt, or the other way round.

  • Customise one of ours. Changing the colour, sleeves or work on a lehenga from our collection is often simpler than designing from a blank page. Read what you can change on a bridal lehenga.

  • Plan pieces you'll wear again. A blouse that works with a saree later, or a lehenga that converts for a reception.

How pricing works at House of Daisy

  1. Meet a designer at our Golf Course Road showroom, or on a free 30-minute video call. Bring your ideas, screenshots and your budget.

  2. Agree the design. The designer sketches it with you and suggests where to spend and where to save.

  3. See the price before you commit. You get a clear price for the agreed design. Nothing is cut until you approve it.

  4. Confirm your order. Customised orders are paid in full in advance, once you have approved the design and the price.
