Cousin wedding

Lehenga design for cousin wedding: four shapes and when to wear them

The lehenga designs that suit a cousin best are the ones with a clear personality: a crop top for movement, a jacket for warmth and structure, a cape for drama, and a double dupatta for the ceremony. Each one makes a lehenga feel designed rather than generic, and each one suits a particular function. Here is how we explain them to cousins at House of Daisy, our showroom on Golf Course Road, Gurugram.

The crop-top lehenga: for the dancers

A short, fitted blouse with a high-waisted skirt and often no dupatta at all. It is the most modern of the four and the easiest to move in.

  • Best for: the sangeet, mehndi and cocktail.
  • Design details to ask for: a sweetheart or square neckline, a corset-style top, sheer sleeves, or a scalloped hem.
  • Good to know: our ready crop-top lehengas come with a dupatta you can leave off.

See our crop-top lehenga collection for current shapes.

The jacket lehenga: for winter and for structure

A long or short jacket worn over the blouse, open at the front. It adds polish, keeps you warm at an outdoor winter function, and lets you show embroidery on the jacket while the skirt stays lighter.

  • Best for: the wedding day, reception and evening functions in cooler months.
  • Design details: a floor-length sheer jacket for elegance, a short peplum jacket for a younger look, or a velvet jacket with zardozi for winter.

The cape lehenga: for drama without weight

A cape replaces the dupatta. It falls from the shoulders or neckline, moves when you walk and frames the blouse in photographs.

  • Best for: the reception, cocktail and sangeet.
  • Design details: a sheer organza cape with a worked border, a shoulder cape, or a long trailing cape for the entry.
  • Why cousins like it: no dupatta to hold, pin or rescue all evening.

The double dupatta: for the ceremony

Two dupattas, one draped over the head or shoulders and one across the body. It is the most traditional of the four, and it suits the wedding day when you may cover your head during rituals, a custom that varies by family and community.

  • Best for: the pheras, the wedding day and family photographs.
  • Design details: one heavier and one lighter dupatta, or two in contrasting colours from the same palette.

Can one lehenga carry more than one design?

Yes, and this is a clever way to stretch a cousin's wardrobe. A skirt bought from us can later get a crop top, jacket or shrug made to order to match it, so the same skirt reads differently on two days. A lehenga with its dupatta for the wedding becomes a cape lehenga at the reception with a separate cape.

How does made to order work for these designs?

Some jacket, shrug and cape lehengas are ready at the showroom, and any style is made to order. You choose the fabric, colour, neckline, sleeves and embroidery, one by one, and you can bring a picture you love. Pieces we make to order are made to your measurements and hand-embroidered in our atelier. For a single festive piece, order three to four weeks ahead; for heavy hand embroidery, about eight weeks. Our guide to outfits for every function helps you place each design in the week.

Common questions

Which lehenga design is easiest to dance in?

The crop-top lehenga, with the dupatta left off or secured. On request we make a lighter flare and secure the dupatta and blouse for dancing.

Is a jacket lehenga too warm for a summer wedding?

A sheer organza or net jacket is light enough for many summer evenings. Velvet is best kept for winter.

Can I add a cape to a lehenga I already bought from you?

Yes. A crop top, jacket or shrug can be made to order to match a skirt you bought from us. Ask us about a cape at the consultation.

Can you copy a design from a picture?

You can bring any picture for inspiration, and the designer turns it into a piece made to your measurements.

Cousin ki shaadi ke liye kaun sa lehenga design trend mein hai?

Crop top, cape aur jacket lehenga sabse zyada poochhe ja rahe hain, aur pheras ke liye double dupatta.
