A Banarasi saree for mother of groom is one of the most loved wedding-day choices, because its woven zari and brocade look ceremonial in daylight and glow under evening lights at the baraat and pheras. At House of Daisy, our showroom on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, we help the groom's mother choose the type of Banarasi, the colour and the blouse so the saree feels grand but wearable from the first dhol beat to the last ritual.
What makes Banarasi right for the wedding day?
Banarasi silk is woven with patterns built into the fabric itself, often with zari threads, so the richness is part of the cloth rather than added on top. That gives it a depth that photographs well and a weight that falls into neat pleats. It also carries a sense of occasion: many families think of it as the saree for the most important day, and the groom's mother's wedding saree is often the one she keeps and wears again at family weddings for years.
Which kind of Banarasi should she look at?
- Heavy brocade with an all-over pattern: the grandest look, best for the pheras when she wants maximum ceremony.
- Butti or scattered-motif grounds with a deep border: rich but lighter on the eye, and easier to wear for hours.
- Tissue Banarasi: woven with a metallic sheen, lovely for an evening baraat or reception.
- Georgette or softer Banarasi: drapes more fluidly and weighs less, good for a mother who will be on her feet a lot.
A note on how we work: we never weave or dye fabric ourselves. For made-to-order pieces we source Banarasi brocade, then cut, tailor and embroider it to her measurements, for example as a blouse, a jacket, or a lehenga for another function.
Which colours work for the baraat and the pheras?
The baraat is lively and often outdoors, so many families like warm, bright shades: marigold, rani pink, emerald or turquoise. The pheras feel more formal, and deep colours such as maroon, wine, bottle green, royal blue or purple with gold zari are popular. If the bride wears red, a neighbouring shade keeps the two distinct in photos. We make any colour she wants on made-to-order pieces, and colour help is given at the showroom with swatches.
How should the blouse work with a Banarasi?
A Banarasi already has a strong pattern, so the blouse can either repeat the border's brocade or go plain in a contrast silk with fine embroidery at the neck and sleeves. Elbow sleeves and a closed or modest back keep the line classic; a boat neck suits heavier necklaces. For a ready saree bought from us, the blouse piece is stitched to her measurements on request, usually in about a week.
Can one Banarasi do two functions?
Yes, with styling. Worn with a full brocade blouse and a classic drape, it suits the pheras. Worn with a sleek contrast blouse and an embroidered jacket or belt over it, it can look new at a reception. A jacket, cape, belt or shrug can be made to order to match a saree bought from us.
Where do I begin?
Look through our sarees and ask us on WhatsApp what is in the showroom now. For a made-to-order piece, the first design consultation is free, in the showroom or on a video call, with a sketch and an embroidery sample before anything is made. Pieces we make to order are made to your measurements and hand-embroidered in our atelier. Allow three to four weeks for a single festive outfit. Our guide to family outfits with the bride's lehenga explains how mothers, sisters and aunts plan together.

Common questions
Do you weave Banarasi sarees?
No. We source Banarasi fabric, then tailor and embroider it. We never weave or dye fabric ourselves.
Is Banarasi too heavy for a long night?
Heavy brocade can be, so softer or georgette Banarasi and butti grounds are easier for long rituals.
Is the zari real gold?
We use tested zari only, and never claim real gold or silver zari.
Can I wear my Banarasi again at the reception?
Yes, with a new blouse and a matching jacket or belt made to order, it can look quite new.
Dulhe ki maa ke liye Banarasi saree kaunse rang mein?
Pheron ke liye maroon, wine ya bottle green, aur baraat ke liye rani pink ya marigold bahut achhe lagte hain.
