A dulha dulhan embroidery design is a bride-and-groom figure motif embroidered into the wedding outfit. It might be a tiny couple repeated along the border, a single pair under a mandap on the dupatta, or the two of you on the back of the blouse. It is one of the most loved ways to make a lehenga personal, and our own karigars embroider these figures in-house.
Styles of dulha dulhan motif
Traditional miniature: figures in the style of old Rajasthani and Mughal paintings, with the groom in a sehra and the bride in a ghoonghat.
Silhouette: the couple as a simple outline in gold thread or dabka. Elegant, and easy to read from a distance.
Scene: the couple inside a moment: the jaimala, the pheras, the groom on a horse, the bride in a doli. See bridal lehenga with doli design.
Modern: the two of you as you really are, in your own outfits, or a moment from your story. See love story lehenga.
Where to place it
Lehenga border
A row of couples, or couples alternating with other motifs, all along the hem. It shows in every full-length photo.
Dupatta corners and border
The four corners of the dupatta are perfect for a single couple each. Pair them with your names along the border (see couple name embroidery).
Blouse back
One couple, centred, framed by the blouse's own embroidery. It is the motif everyone sees during the pheras.
Kalis
One figure per panel, for a bold, storytelling lehenga.
Getting the detail right
Size matters. Faces and hands need space to read clearly. Very small figures work best as silhouettes.
Match the technique to the lehenga. In zardozi and dabka the couple looks regal; in resham thread it looks softer and more painterly.
Choose the outfits on the figures. The embroidered bride can wear your lehenga's colour, which is a lovely detail.
Decide how many. One special couple, or a repeating pattern. Both work; they just look different.
Not only for lehengas
The same motif works on a saree pallu, a sharara dupatta or a reception jacket, so the story can carry across functions. Read custom bridal outfits.
How to order
Bring any picture of a couple motif you like, or your own photos. Our designer sketches the figures and shows you where they will sit and the price before anything is cut. Payment is in full in advance, the outfit is made to your measurements, and our own karigars do the embroidery. The time it takes depends on the amount of work; the designer gives you a delivery date when the design is approved.
