For many brides, Radha and Krishna are the first love story they ever heard. A Radha Krishna theme lehenga brings that story into the wedding outfit, through figures of the divine couple, the scenes of Vrindavan, or simply the symbols that everyone recognises: the flute, the peacock feather, the lotus and the cows. Our own karigars embroider both figures and symbols, so the theme can be as bold or as quiet as you like.
Motifs to choose from
Radha and Krishna together under a kadamba tree, on a swing, or in the raas.
The flute (bansuri) and peacock feather (mor pankh), the simplest signs of Krishna.
Cows and calves, as in pichwai paintings. Read pichwai bridal lehenga.
Lotus ponds and the Yamuna, with boats, ripples and lotus flowers. See lotus motif lehenga.
Peacocks dancing among the trees. See peacock theme bridal lehenga.
The raas leela: a circle of dancing gopis around the border, which moves beautifully on a flared lehenga.
Vrindavan theme: a whole landscape
A Vrindavan theme lehenga turns the skirt into a scene: trees, peacocks, cows, the river and the couple at the centre. It suits a heavily panelled lehenga, where each kali holds a part of the landscape.
Respectful placement
Many families feel strongly that divine figures should not sit near the hem, where they touch the floor or are sat on. Common choices are:
Figures on the dupatta or the upper part of the skirt, with symbols (flute, feathers, lotus) along the border.
Figures on the blouse back, framed like a small painting.
Symbols only, if you want the meaning without the figures.
Talk it through with your family; our designer will place the motifs the way you are comfortable with.
Colours that suit the theme
Peacock blue, teal and green, echoing the feather.
Marigold, mustard and saffron, for a festive, temple-like feel.
Pastels with gold, for a softer, painted look.
Classic red, with the theme in gold zardozi.
Not only for the wedding
A Radha Krishna theme works especially well for the mehndi or a Janmashtami-season wedding, and the same motifs can be repeated on the bride's dupatta for the wedding day. Read theme lehenga for wedding.
How to order
Bring any picture you love: a painting, a temple wall, a saved post. Our designer sketches the motifs to the size of your lehenga and shows you the placement and the price before anything is cut. Payment is in full in advance, and the lehenga is made to your measurements. The designer gives you a delivery date when the design is approved; a full scene takes longer than symbols alone.
