A lehenga blouse back knot design is a twist of fabric, tied or folded into a knot at the centre of the back, often with a small opening around it. It is a quiet way to look modern without baring much, which is why brides who want something fresh but family-friendly keep coming back to it. At House of Daisy on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, we make knot backs on made-to-order blouses, and on the blouse of any ready lehenga from our showroom.
What kinds of knot backs are there?
- Centre twist with a keyhole: the fabric gathers into a knot in the middle of the back, with a small open teardrop above or below it.
- Knot at the neck: two panels tie at the nape, like a halter, leaving a narrow opening below.
- Knot at the waist: the back is mostly covered, and the panels twist together at the hem of the blouse.
- Double knot: two smaller twists, one higher and one lower, for a more graphic look.
- Faux knot: a knot that is sewn in place for looks, while the blouse actually closes with hooks or a zip.
Why does a knot read as modern?
Most bridal blouse backs are built from cut shapes: a U, a V, a square. A knot is built from folds instead, so it has volume and soft shadow. It borrows from draped eveningwear and still sits naturally with a traditional lehenga. Because the shape itself is the detail, it does not need heavy embroidery to stand out, which makes it a good match for brides who want the skirt to carry the work.
Which fabrics make the best knots?
A knot needs fabric that folds softly and holds a twist without becoming bulky.
- Silk and satin-backed silks twist cleanly and catch the light on each fold.
- Crepe and georgette drape softly and are good for a fluid, relaxed knot.
- Velvet makes a rich, sculpted knot for a winter wedding, but it should be kept small.
- Heavily embroidered fabric does not twist well. Keep the knot panel plain or lightly worked and place the embroidery around it.
Is a knot back comfortable to sit in?
A knot sits right where you lean against a chair, so placement matters. A knot high on the back or at the nape is the most comfortable for long rituals. A knot at the centre should be soft and flat enough not to press. At your trial, sit back in a chair for a few minutes and tell us how it feels. Changes needed at the trial are made before delivery.
How does a knot back work with the dupatta?
If your dupatta is on your head through the pheras, the knot may be hidden for the ceremony and revealed at the varmala, entry or reception. A sheer net or organza dupatta lets the knot show through softly. For the most drama, plan one moment without the head drape, perhaps your entry or the couple portraits, and make sure the photographer knows. We show you the drape at your final trial so you can see when the knot shows.
How do I finish a knot back?
- Latkans from the knot: two tassels falling from the twist add movement.
- A thin border around the keyhole in gota, zardozi or mirror work frames the opening.
- A matching knot on the sleeves ties the whole blouse together for a playful bride.

Questions brides ask
Does a knot back show much of the back?
Very little, usually only a small keyhole around the knot. That is why it suits brides who want a modern look with more cover.
Is the knot real or sewn?
Either. A sewn knot keeps its shape all day, while the blouse closes with hooks or a zip underneath.
Can I have a knot back on a velvet blouse?
Yes, but keep the knot small, because velvet is thick when it folds.
Will a knot hurt when I lean back?
A high knot or a soft, flat one is comfortable. We check this when you sit at your trial.
Knot wala blouse bridal look ke liye theek hai?
Haan. Yeh modern lagta hai aur peeth zyada nahi dikhti, isliye kai brides ise pasand karti hain.
