An Indian wedding in Turkey can take very different shapes: a sangeet on the Bosphorus with the city lit up across the water, a sunrise shoot among the rock chimneys of Cappadocia, or pheras on the Aegean coast with the sea behind the mandap. Each setting asks something different of the bride's clothes. Here is how we plan the outfits, and the Turkish colours and patterns that blend naturally with Indian embroidery.
Three settings, three different wardrobes
Istanbul: waterfront terraces, old mansions and domes on the skyline. Wind off the water is common, and evenings by the strait can be cool even when the day is warm. A cape, a jacket or a dupatta you can wrap helps.
Cappadocia: rocky valleys, cave-style hotels and dusty paths. Mornings are often cold, which matters if you want photos at sunrise with the balloons. Keep hems off the ground and bring a warm layer that photographs well.
Bodrum, Antalya and the Aegean coast: beach clubs, hillside terraces and strong summer sun. Breathable fabrics and lighter skirts make long days far easier.
Many couples choose late spring or early autumn to avoid the hottest weeks on the coast; check the forecast for your exact dates and town before you choose fabrics.
Borrowing from Turkish tiles and textiles
Turkish tile work is a gift to a bride who wants her outfits to belong to the place. Turquoise, cobalt, coral red and white, with tulips, carnations and curling vines, translate easily into embroidery. Our karigars can work a tulip-and-vine border in aari or zardozi on a mehndi lehenga, or a cobalt and white scheme on a sangeet outfit. Old court textiles were rich velvets and brocades with large pomegranate and carnation motifs; that look suits a cool evening reception in Istanbul. A turquoise and gold palette also sits well with a mint or aqua bridal lehenga if you want something other than red.
A Hindu wedding in Turkey: the pheras outfit
For a Hindu wedding in Turkey, the pheras are often held outdoors, on a lawn or a terrace by the sea. Plan the bridal lehenga for that.
Weight: you may sit and stand for a long time in the open air, so keep the heaviest work on the border and the blouse rather than all over the skirt.
Wind and the sacred fire: sea breezes lift a net dupatta easily. Pin it firmly at the head and the shoulder, and keep loose ends away from the fire.
Colour: many brides keep red or maroon; against white stone and blue sea, a deep pink or an ivory with gold also stands out.
An Indian destination wedding in Turkey, function by function
Welcome evening: a gown or an Indo-western set with a cape for a cool waterfront terrace. Our customised gowns post has ideas.
Mehndi: a light crop-top lehenga or a sharara in turquoise, coral or lime, with short sleeves so your hands stay free.
Sangeet: net, sequins or mirror work that catches the lights on the water.
Wedding: your bridal lehenga, in a weight you can manage outdoors.
After party: a short cocktail dress, a co-ord or a sleek gown. See bride after party outfit ideas.

Getting the outfits to Turkey
We design and make every outfit in India and ship it worldwide, or you collect it from our Golf Course Road store in Gurugram before you travel. We do not send a dresser or a designer with you, so plan a full dress rehearsal at home: wear each outfit, pin each dupatta, and photograph how it is done so whoever helps you on the day can follow it. Check your airline's rules for carrying a bridal lehenga, and the customs rules of the countries involved, because they change.
How to order
Send your dates, the towns you have chosen and your list of functions on WhatsApp +91 92896 79666. Our designer plans everything with you on a video call or at the store, guides you through your measurements and shows you the price before anything is cut. Payment is in full in advance. Our karigars embroider each piece to your measurements, and we leave extra margin in the seams so a tailor near you can adjust the fit; if you are in India before the wedding, you can have a trial at the store. You get a delivery date once the design is approved. If we ship to you abroad, you pay your country's customs duty and import taxes when the parcel arrives.
