Indian Destination Wedding in Greece: The Bride's Outfit Guide

Powder Blue Lehenga from House of Daisy

An Indian destination wedding in Greece is all white walls, blue domes, cliffs and sea. The light is bright and clean, the islands can be windy, and almost every terrace is reached by steps. Your outfits need to stand out against white, stay in place in the wind and let you climb in comfort. Here is how we plan them.

The setting: islands, cliffs and old towns

  • An Indian wedding in Santorini: cliffside terraces, caldera views and narrow whitewashed lanes with many steps. Long trails and heavy skirts are hard work here.

  • Mykonos and the other Cyclades: beach clubs, windmills and white cube houses. Strong summer winds are common on these islands.

  • Crete, Rhodes and the mainland: olive groves, stone villages, old harbours and ancient ruins as a backdrop, with a little more shelter from the wind in many spots.

Summer is often hot and dry; late spring and early autumn are milder. Wind varies a lot by island and by day, so check the forecast for your dates and plan for a breezy evening anyway.

Colours that work against white and blue

White walls make colour sing. Coral, fuchsia, marigold, emerald and a deep red all look striking in Greek light. Pale pastels can look lovely too, but choose them on purpose: a powder blue lehenga against blue domes and sea can blend into the background in wide shots, so add contrast in the border or the dupatta. Gold embroidery shines in strong sun; silver and pearl work look cooler and softer at sunset. Ancient Greek borders, such as the key pattern, can become a fine embroidered edging on a dupatta, and the draped look of old statues is a natural reference for a saree drape or a pleated gown at the reception.

Planning for wind and steps

  • Dupattas: pin them firmly at the head and shoulder, or choose a cape or a shorter dupatta for cliff-top photos. A net dupatta flying across your face makes every picture harder.

  • Skirts: ankle length, a lighter can-can or none, and enough flare to climb steps without lifting the whole skirt in both hands.

  • Shoes: block heels or embellished flats; we set the hem length with the shoes you will actually wear.

  • Embroidery placement: keep the heaviest work on the border and blouse so the skirt hangs well when the wind catches it.

A Hindu wedding in Greece, function by function

For a Hindu wedding in Greece, many couples hold the pheras on a terrace or by the sea at sunset. The sacred fire and an open, windy site are a combination to plan around: keep loose dupatta ends and net away from the flames and have someone ready to hold your dupatta in place.

  • Welcome evening: a flowing gown or a co-ord set for a harbour dinner.

  • Haldi and mehndi: a sharara or a light lehenga in yellow, lime or citrus prints.

  • Pool or beach afternoon: see our beach wedding lehenga ideas for sand and sun.

  • Sangeet: sequins and mirror work for a night terrace.

  • Wedding: your bridal lehenga, light enough for the steps.

  • Cocktail or reception: a gown, a saree drape or a short dress. See our cocktail party ideas.

Getting the outfits to Greece

We design and make each outfit and ship it worldwide, or you collect it from our Golf Course Road store in Gurugram before you travel. Nobody from our team travels with you, so try everything on at home and teach the person helping you how each dupatta pins. Check your airline's rules for carrying a bridal lehenga and the customs rules where you live; they change and differ. Ferries and island hops mean more packing and unpacking, so our guide on how to travel with a bridal lehenga is worth reading before you pack.

How to order

Message us on WhatsApp +91 92896 79666 with your island, your dates and your list of functions. Our designer plans the wardrobe with you on video call or at the store and guides you through your measurements; our lehenga measurement chart shows what we will ask for. The designer shows you the price before anything is cut, and payment is in full in advance. Our karigars embroider each piece to your measurements, with extra margin left in the seams for a tailor near you; if you are in India before the wedding, you can have a trial at the store. You get a delivery date once the design is approved. If we ship to you abroad, you pay your country's customs duty and import taxes on arrival.
