Bridal Lehenga Colour Day Wedding

Choosing Your Bridal Lehenga Colour for a Day or Night Wedding

Purple crop top lehenga, House of Daisy

You've fallen for a colour. Then someone asks, "Is the wedding in the day or at night?" — and suddenly you're not sure. They're right to ask: the same lehenga can look completely different under midday sun and under evening lights. Here is how to choose a colour you'll love at your wedding and in every photograph after it.

What daylight does to colour

Natural daylight is honest. It shows every shade exactly as it is, and it is kind to soft, fresh colours.

  • Pastels glow — blush, peach, mint, powder blue and lilac look luminous in sunlight.

  • Lighter fabrics shine — organza, net and georgette move beautifully outdoors.

  • Subtle work reads well — fine threadwork and delicate embroidery show every detail.

  • Very dark colours can feel heavy in bright sun, and a lot of metallic work can glare in photographs.

What evening lights do to colour

At night, warm lights and camera flashes take over. Rich colours deepen, and shimmer comes alive.

  • Deep, rich colours hold their own — red, maroon, wine, emerald and sapphire look regal.

  • Metallics and sequins sparkle — gold, silver and champagne catch every light.

  • Very pale pastels can wash out under warm yellow lighting — add sparkle or a deeper border if you love them.

  • Heavier fabrics feel right — velvet and silk suit a winter evening.

The classic red, day or night

Red is red for a reason: it is joyful, it is traditional, and it works at any hour. For a daytime ceremony, a slightly brighter red or a red with soft gold work feels fresh; for a night wedding, deeper reds and maroons with rich zardozi look magnificent.

Think about your whole wedding, not one outfit

Most weddings have both day and night functions. Many brides use this to their advantage: pastels and florals for the daytime haldi and mehndi, jewel tones for the sangeet, the classic red for the wedding, and shimmer for the reception. Our sangeet and mehndi guide and our reception guide have more ideas.

How to test a colour before you decide

  1. See it in daylight and under warm light. Step near a window in the showroom, then under the lights.

  2. Take photos on your phone — with and without flash. The camera notices things your eye doesn't.

  3. Hold it next to your jewellery — gold, polki and silver change how a colour reads.

  4. Ask your venue about lighting — warm fairy lights, cool white lights and outdoor daylight all behave differently.

  5. Trust how you feel. The colour that makes you stand a little taller is the right one.

Love a lehenga, but not its colour?

Very often the colour can change. A designer prices the change while you're in the showroom, and a made-to-order piece takes about eight weeks from design approval. Read our bridal customisation guide, or browse our bridal collection for colour ideas before you visit.
