Reception Lehenga or Gown in Gurgaon? Choosing Your Evening Look

Dark blue gown for a wedding reception, House of Daisy

The wedding is tradition, ritual and family. The reception is something else: your first evening as a married woman, greeting everyone you love, with music and lights and a little more freedom. It's the outfit where many brides show a completely different side of themselves.

Lehenga, gown or saree?

  • A reception lehenga — lighter than your wedding lehenga, often in a contrasting colour, with more shimmer and a modern silhouette such as a fish-cut or a crop top. Perfect if you love the drama of a lehenga but want to feel different from the wedding day.

  • A gown — sleek, glamorous and easy to move in. Ideal for a cocktail-style reception, a hotel ballroom or a bride who wants a contemporary look. See our gowns.

  • A saree — net, satin or georgette with a statement blouse is effortlessly elegant, especially for a newly married bride who wants a grown-up look. See our guide to designer sarees.

Colours that glow at night

  • Midnight blue, black and wine — rich and modern under evening lights.

  • Silver, gold and champagne — metallics that catch every camera flash.

  • Deep emerald or sapphire — jewel tones that flatter in photographs.

  • Soft pastels with sparkle — if your wedding was red and gold, a shimmering pastel makes a beautiful contrast.

Think about your evening

At the reception you'll stand to greet guests for a long time, walk between tables, pose for a great many photographs and — if all goes well — dance. Choose a weight you'll forget about, shoes you can stand in, and a silhouette that lets you sit and rise easily. If you are changing from your wedding outfit to the reception on the same day, practise the change once so it is quick and calm.

Make it a little bit "you"

The reception is the perfect outfit to customise: a deeper back, sheer sparkly sleeves, a cape, a slightly different colour. A designer prices the change while you're in the showroom. For something designed from the beginning, read our bridal customisation guide — a made-to-order piece takes about eight weeks from design approval.

Try them side by side

The quickest way to decide between a lehenga, a gown and a saree is to put all three on in one visit. At our Golf Course Road store you can — and a styling session costs nothing, whether you buy or not. Start with our reception collection.
