For most women, the bhabhi lehenga and saree question has a simple answer: wear both, each at the function where it shines. A lehenga carries volume and movement for the dancing and the big night; a saree brings ease and grace to seated rituals and the reception stage. At House of Daisy, our showroom on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, we help you split your wedding wardrobe between the two so every look feels deliberate.
What does each outfit do best?
- Lehenga: flare for dancing, room for heavy embroidery, easy to walk in once it is on, and it looks full and festive in group photographs.
- Saree: elegant on stage, comfortable for long seated rituals, flattering in movement, and easy to pack for a destination wedding.
Neither is "more correct" for a bhabhi. Customs vary by family and community; in some homes the married women of the house wear sarees for certain rituals, in others everyone wears lehengas. Ask the family what they expect, then plan around it.
How might I split them across the functions?
A starting plan many bhabhis adapt:
- Roka or engagement: a saree in a soft festive shade, or a light lehenga.
- Haldi: a simple cotton or georgette saree, or a light lehenga you do not mind marking.
- Mehndi: a printed or gota lehenga, easy to sit on the floor in.
- Sangeet: a lehenga with flare, so you can dance.
- Wedding day: your richest lehenga, or a heavy silk saree if your family prefers.
- Reception: a saree with shine, or a lehenga saree for both.
Our guide to outfits for every function shows how the bride's looks set the tone for the family's.
What if I cannot decide?
Choose a lehenga saree. It has a stitched skirt and a pre-draped pallu, so it reads as a saree but wears with a lehenga's ease. We make sarees to order, including pre-draped and lehenga sarees, and we pre-drape sarees bought from House of Daisy. It is a good answer for the reception or the cocktail, when you want saree elegance and lehenga comfort.
How do I keep the two looks connected?
Pick one or two threads to run through the week: a family colour, a type of embroidery, or a metallic tone. If your wedding-day lehenga has gota patti, a reception saree with a gota border feels connected without repeating. When the bride's lehenga is from House of Daisy, the family's made-to-order outfits can carry the same motif or border in a lighter version, on request.
Ready or made to order?
Mix them freely. Browse our sarees and wedding lehengas. A ready saree comes with an unstitched blouse piece, stitched to your measurements on request, usually in about a week, and we show you how to drape it when you buy. Ready lehengas can be altered in length, waist and flare at the showroom, usually within about a week. For made to order, your first consultation is free; you choose everything one by one, approve a sketch and see an embroidery sample first. Pieces we make to order are made to your measurements and hand-embroidered in our atelier. Order a single festive piece three to four weeks ahead, or, with a family group order, about four weeks before the first function for lighter work and about eight weeks for heavy hand embroidery.
Where can I compare both?
Our showroom is at Shop 226A, 2nd Floor, DT Mega Mall, Golf Course Road, DLF Phase 1, Sector 28, Gurugram, open every day from 11 AM to 9 PM. Try a lehenga and a saree in the same visit, and we will help you map them to your functions.
Common questions
Is a saree too simple for the wedding day?
Not if it is a rich silk or an embroidered saree. Many bhabhis wear a heavy saree for the pheras.
Which is easier to dance in?
A lehenga, especially one with a lighter flare. On request, we make a lighter flare and secure the dupatta and blouse for dancing.
Do you pre-drape sarees?
We pre-drape sarees bought from House of Daisy. We do not pre-pleat.
Can I buy one ready and order the other?
Yes. You can mix ready and made-to-order pieces freely.
Shaadi mein lehenga pehnu ya saree?
Dono pehen sakti hain. Sangeet aur shaadi ke liye lehenga, aur reception ke liye saree, yeh kaafi log chunte hain.
Saree pehenna nahi aata, phir bhi le sakti hoon?
Haan. Hum kharidte waqt drape karna sikha dete hain, ya lehenga saree le sakti hain jo pehle se drape hoti hai.
