Bhabhi

Bhabhi lehenga saree: a saree's drape with a skirt's ease

A bhabhi lehenga saree is exactly what it sounds like: a stitched, flared skirt with a pallu that is already draped and fixed, so you get a saree's flowing line without pleating, pinning or redraping between rituals. At House of Daisy, our showroom on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, we make lehenga sarees to order in any colour and fabric, and we pre-drape sarees bought from us when you would rather keep a classic saree's fall.

How is a lehenga saree made?

The base is a lehenga skirt, usually with a softer flare than a full lehenga, so it falls like the pleated front of a saree. A pallu is attached at the waist and draped across the blouse, then fixed at the shoulder. Some designs add a few stitched pleats at the front for a more traditional look. You step into the skirt, fasten it, settle the pallu and pin it once. That is all.

Why does it suit a bhabhi in particular?

  • No draping help needed on a morning when everyone else is busy with the bride.
  • It stays put while you carry thalis, greet guests and bend for rituals.
  • It still looks like a saree to the elders, which matters in families where married women traditionally wear sarees for certain functions. Customs vary by family, so check what yours expects.
  • It moves well for a gentle dance at the sangeet.

Which fabrics and work suit a lehenga saree?

Fluid fabrics drape best: georgette, chiffon, crepe and soft silks. A net or organza pallu over a silk skirt gives a lighter, airy look for the reception. For the work, a border running along the skirt and pallu edges gives the classic saree frame; scattered buttis or sequins add evening shine; a heavier pallu with a lighter skirt keeps the weight comfortable. Any base fabric is possible for made-to-order pieces, and we use tested zari only.

Which functions is it right for?

The lehenga saree is at its best at the reception and the cocktail, where you want stage elegance and comfort for a long evening. It also works for the engagement and, in a richer silk, for the wedding day. For the haldi or a seated mehndi, a simpler outfit is usually easier. Plan it alongside your other looks with our guide to family outfits planned with the bride.

Can I get the same ease from a ready saree?

Yes, in two ways. First, we pre-drape (stitch into ready-to-wear) sarees bought from House of Daisy. Second, our ready-to-wear sarees come already set up to wear quickly. A ready saree comes with an unstitched blouse piece, stitched to your measurements on request, usually in about a week, and we show you how to drape it when you buy. A belt, jacket, cape or shrug can be made to order to match a saree bought from us.

How does a made-to-order lehenga saree work?

Your first consultation is free, at the showroom or on a video call. You choose fabric, colour, neckline, sleeves and embroidery one by one, our designers share a sketch for approval, and you see an embroidery sample before the full piece is made. The drape is shown at the final trial, and changes needed at the trial are made before delivery. Pieces we make to order are made to your measurements and hand-embroidered in our atelier. Order three to four weeks ahead for one festive outfit, or about four weeks before the first function for lighter work and about eight weeks for heavy hand embroidery if the family is ordering together.

Common questions

Is a lehenga saree the same as a saree gown?

They are close cousins. A lehenga saree has a separate skirt and blouse; a saree gown is usually one stitched piece with a draped pallu.

Do you pre-pleat sarees?

No, we do not pre-pleat. We pre-drape sarees bought from House of Daisy, and we make lehenga sarees to order.

Can it be made with a longer blouse?

Yes, on a made-to-order piece you choose the blouse length, neckline and sleeves.

Is a petticoat included?

A lehenga saree has its own stitched skirt. For made-to-order sarees, a matching petticoat is stitched.

Lehenga saree pehenna mushkil hai kya?

Bilkul nahi. Skirt pehno, pallu set karo aur ek pin lagao. Kisi ki madad ki zaroorat nahi padti.
