An Indian best friend's wedding dress is really a small wardrobe: something for the roka or engagement, the haldi, the mehndi, the sangeet, the wedding day and the reception, each one suited to what that function asks of you. At House of Daisy, our showroom on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, we help the bride's closest friends plan those outfits together, so they feel like one story rather than six separate purchases.
Why does the best friend need more than one outfit?
Because she is at almost everything. A guest might come only to the wedding night, but the best friend is often there from the first family meeting to the last goodbye, and she is in the photographs at every one of them. Wearing one heavy lehenga to three functions does not work, and neither does turning up to the sangeet in something meant for a morning puja. Planning the set as a whole lets you spend where it counts and keep the rest light and easy.
What does each function usually call for?
Customs vary by family and community, so check the plan with the bride first. As a starting point:
- Roka or engagement: an anarkali, a light saree or an elegant suit. Polished, not loud.
- Haldi: something washable and comfortable, often a light sharara or a cotton kurta set in a sunny shade.
- Mehndi: a skirt or sharara with short or three-quarter sleeves, so your hands are free when the henna artist reaches you.
- Sangeet: the outfit you dance in. A lighter lehenga with a secure dupatta, or an indo-western set.
- Wedding day: your most special piece, usually a lehenga or a silk saree, rich but a clear step behind the bride.
- Reception: evening shine: a saree gown, a sequinned saree or a gown.
Our guide to outfits for every function shows how the bride's own looks are planned, which helps you place yours beside them.
How do I make six outfits feel like one wardrobe?
Pick one thread and carry it through. It could be a colour you return to in different strengths, a craft such as mirror work or gota patti that appears in two or three pieces, or a signature dupatta style. A good rule is one statement piece, two middle pieces and the rest light. That way the wedding-day lehenga gets the attention it deserves and the haldi outfit does not compete for it.
You can also make one fabric work twice. A fabric can be made into a sharara for the mehndi and a saree for a smaller puja, so the two read as a pair in the album.
How close to the bride's colours should I go?
Close enough to look like you belong in her frame, never so close that you are mistaken for her. If she has shared her lehenga, bring a photo or a swatch. A friend's outfit can be matched to the bride's lehenga from a photo or swatch using our fabric shade cards, even if her lehenga is not from House of Daisy. We then suggest shades that sit beside hers without copying them.
Ready pieces or made to order?
Both work, and most best friends mix them. Our wedding outfits include ready lehengas, sarees, suits and gowns; ready lehengas can be altered in length, waist and flare at the showroom, usually within about a week. Ask us on WhatsApp what is in the showroom now.
For made to order, the first design consultation is free, at the showroom or on a video call. You choose fabric, colour, neckline, sleeves and embroidery one by one, our designers share a sketch for your approval, and you see an embroidery sample before the whole piece is made. Pieces we make to order are made to your measurements and hand-embroidered in our atelier. For a single festive outfit, order three to four weeks ahead. If your friends' group is ordering together, start about four weeks before the first function for lighter work and about eight weeks for heavy hand embroidery; our group order page explains how it works.
Where can I see the pieces?
Come in with the bride or on your own. Our showroom is at Shop 226A, 2nd Floor, DT Mega Mall, Golf Course Road, DLF Phase 1, Sector 28, Gurugram, open every day from 11 AM to 9 PM. Walk-ins are welcome to see pieces, and styling consultations are by appointment.
Common questions
How many outfits does a best friend need for an Indian wedding?
Usually one per function she attends, often five or six. You can repeat a suit with a new dupatta for smaller events.
Should the best friend wear a lehenga?
For the wedding day, a lehenga is a lovely choice. For the other functions, sharara, anarkali, saree or indo-western sets work just as well.
Can you match my outfit to the bride's lehenga from a photo?
Yes. We match from a photo or swatch using our shade cards, even if her lehenga is from elsewhere.
Can our whole friends' group order together?
Yes. Each friend can choose her own silhouette in a shared fabric and colour story, and there is no minimum group size.
Do you ship abroad?
Yes, we ship worldwide, and group outfits can go to each person's own address.
Best friend ki shaadi ke liye kitne outfits banwane chahiye?
Har function ke liye ek, lekin haldi aur mehndi ke outfits halke rakhiye. Shaadi ke din ka outfit sabse khaas ho.
