Aunt of the bride

Aunt of the bride dress, plus size: cuts that fit and flatter

Finding an aunt of the bride dress in plus size should feel no harder than for anyone else: start with silhouettes built around comfort and movement, and either choose a ready piece in your size or have it made to your measurements. At House of Daisy, our showroom on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, ready suits, anarkalis, gowns and ready blouses come in sizes up to 5XL and beyond, and any size is also made to measure.

Which cuts feel and look wonderful?

The best cut is the one you forget you are wearing by the third hour. These are the shapes fuller-figure aunts most often love:

  • A-line anarkali: flares gently from just under the bust, so it moves freely and sits well when you are seated.
  • Empire-line gown: a defined seam high on the body and a long fall of fabric below it.
  • Straight kurta with sharara or palazzo: long, clean lines and easy movement for dancing.
  • Lehenga with a longer choli: a choli that meets the skirt comfortably, worn with a dupatta draped across or on one shoulder.
  • Cape gown: a sheer cape gives cover and flow without extra layers to manage.

What details make the biggest difference?

  • Sleeves: three-quarter or full sleeves in a fabric with a little stretch or a sheer finish feel comfortable. Sleeves can be added or lengthened on most ready pieces, usually within about a week.
  • Neckline: a V or a sweetheart neckline with some depth often feels lighter than a high round neck, but the choice is yours, and on most ready lehengas and gowns the neckline can be raised.
  • Fabric: georgette, crepe and soft silk drape smoothly; stiff fabrics can feel heavy over a long day.
  • Embroidery placement: work at the neckline, sleeves or border draws the eye where you want it.
  • Lining: a soft lining makes every outfit kinder in a warm hall.
  • Padding: cups or padding can be added to any blouse, ready or made to order.

Why made to measure is worth it for a hero outfit

A ready piece in your size is perfect for lighter functions. For the wedding day, made to measure means the outfit is cut for your body rather than adjusted to it. You choose fabric, colour, neckline, sleeves and embroidery one by one, and you approve a sketch first. Pieces we make to order are made to your measurements and hand-embroidered in our atelier. Hidden pockets, a side zip or a drawstring waist can be added on request.

If you live in another city or abroad, you can send your measurements using our guide, with a video call for help.

How far ahead should I order?

For a single festive outfit, three to four weeks ahead. If the family is ordering together, start about four weeks before the first function for lighter work and about eight weeks for heavy hand embroidery. Alterations on ready lehengas and gowns usually take about a week.

Where do I start browsing?

Our anarkali collection and stitched suits are good places to begin. If the bride's mother and sisters are planning outfits too, our guide to outfits for the bride's mother and sisters shows how to share a palette while each of you chooses her own cut.
