Most people searching for readymade lehenga shops in Gurgaon want one thing: a lehenga they can slip into, pay for and wear without a long wait. That is a fair wish, and for some occasions it works. For a bride, though, it helps to know exactly what a pre-stitched lehenga is before you buy one. House of Daisy, on Golf Course Road, mostly makes lehengas to measure, and some of our pieces are ready to ship in about 3 days, so this guide is honest about both routes.
What "pre-stitched" really means
A pre-stitched lehenga is cut and sewn before anyone has met you. The maker picks a size chart (small, medium, large, or bust sizes such as 34 or 36), a fixed skirt length and a standard blouse shape, and stitches a run of pieces to that chart. When you put one on in the changing room, you are checking how close your body is to somebody else's average.
It is different from a semi-stitched lehenga, where the skirt is mostly made but the blouse is left as fabric for a tailor to finish. We have written about that difference in semi-stitched vs made to measure.
Where an off-the-peg lehenga can work
A guest outfit: for a cousin's sangeet or a friend's reception, a near fit is often fine.
A light, simple design: a plain skirt with a small border is easier to alter than heavy all-over work.
If you sit squarely on the size chart: some bodies match the chart better than others. Neither is right or wrong; the chart simply was not drawn for you.
Its limits for a bride
A bride wears her lehenga for hours, is photographed from every side, sits, dances and walks through the pheras. That is where a standard size shows its edges.
The blouse: it carries the fit of the whole look, and it is the hardest piece to alter. Seam margins in a pre-stitched blouse are often small, and embroidery near the seams limits how far it can be let out or taken in.
Skirt length: fixed for an average height and a guessed heel. Shortening a skirt with a heavy border can mean unpicking and resetting the border.
Weight and flare: you cannot choose how heavy the skirt is, or how much can-can sits underneath.
Colour and embroidery: what you see is what you get. You cannot move the motifs, change the border or add a name to the dupatta.
Others may wear the same piece: a design made in a run is, by definition, not only yours.
Questions to ask before you buy lehenga in Gurgaon
Whichever route you choose, these questions save trouble later:
How much extra fabric is left in the blouse and skirt seams?
Who does alterations, and can the border be reset if the skirt needs shortening?
What is the fabric and the lining, and how heavy is the skirt when you lift it?
Can you see the colour in daylight, not only under shop lights?
Is there a trial after alterations, before the wedding?
How made to measure works with us
Some of our pieces are ready and ship in about 3 days. When we make a lehenga for you, it is planned with you and made to your measurements. In practice:
Bring your references: screenshots, a Pinterest board, a sketch, or a lehenga you liked anywhere.
Design with our designer: colour, fabric, embroidery layout, blouse neckline and back, dupatta drape, skirt weight.
Measurements: taken at the store. Our lehenga measurement chart shows what we measure and why.
Approval: the designer shows you the price before anything is cut. Payment is in full in advance.
Making: our karigars embroider it, and the designer gives you a delivery date once the design is approved. It depends on the design, so start early.
Trial: a bridal lehenga trial at the store, with alterations if anything needs adjusting.
