Indian Designers in Canada, or a Designer in India? A Bride's Guide

Navy Blue Georgette Saree from House of Daisy

Brides searching for Indian designers in Canada are often weighing two routes: buy near home, or have the outfit designed in India and sent over. This guide is about the second. House of Daisy is an independent Indian designer label from Gurugram. We have no store or partner in Canada; we work with Canadian brides by video call and WhatsApp, design and make every piece to measure, and ship worldwide.

Local boutiques or a designer in India

Indian designer boutiques in Canada, in places such as Brampton, Mississauga and Surrey, let you touch the fabric and try a finished outfit on the spot. That suits some brides well. Working with a designer in India suits a different wish: an outfit that starts from a blank page, drawn around your ideas, with embroidery planned for you rather than chosen from what is on the rail. We do not compare or list anyone here; both routes are valid, and you know which one fits you.

Booking calls from Toronto or Vancouver

Searches for indian designers Toronto or indian designers in Vancouver often come down to convenience, so it helps to know that the time difference with India is easy to plan around.

  • Toronto and the East: India's evening falls in your late morning, so a weekend morning call works for both sides.

  • Vancouver and the West: your evening is India's morning, so an after-dinner call is usually easiest.

  • Between calls: keep one WhatsApp chat for the outfit, and send photos and voice notes whenever you like.

Dressing for a Canadian winter wedding

Many Canadian weddings happen in winter, with guests coming in from the snow to a warm banquet hall. The outfit needs to look right indoors and still get you through photographs outside. Ideas that often help:

  • Velvet or raw silk: richer and warmer than net, and embroidery sits beautifully on both.

  • Full sleeves: on the blouse or kurti, elegant and practical.

  • A shawl-style dupatta or a cape: embroidered to match, for arriving, leaving and outdoor photographs.

  • Lined blouse and skirt: more comfortable against the skin in a cold car or doorway.

Our winter wedding lehenga post has more ideas.

And for a summer wedding

Canadian summers can be warm, and outdoor ceremonies, garden photographs and backyard mehndis are common. For these, organza, georgette and net with placed embroidery are lighter, and a lighter dupatta for dancing helps. Vancouver can be damp, so a hem that clears the ground is kinder on wet grass. Check the forecast for your dates and share it with the designer.

Punjabi, Sikh and mixed weddings

Many Canadian weddings are Punjabi or Sikh, and many couples bring two traditions together. We make Punjabi bridal lehengas with a short or long kurti and phulkari, outfits for a Sikh Anand Karaj, and fusion outfits for mixed weddings; see Sikh and Hindu wedding fusion. For the laavan on your chunni, confirm the exact words with your granthi or family elder, and keep the text on the chunni, never near the hem.

Fit, shipping and customs

Our designer, Bhumika Sehgal, guides you through your measurements on a video call, and we leave extra margin in the seams so a tailor near you in Canada can make final adjustments. Read how a video call lehenga consultation runs. We ship to Canada; when the parcel arrives, you pay Canadian customs duty and taxes. Rules change and depend on things such as the declared value and the type of fabric, so check the Canadian customs website before you order. If you are visiting India first, you can have a trial at our Golf Course Road store in Gurugram, with alterations, and carry the outfit home; check your airline's rules before you fly. Our custom lehenga for Canada guide covers the full journey.

How it works

  1. Free consultation: on a video call or WhatsApp video from Canada, or at the store in India. Message WhatsApp +91 92896 79666.

  2. Sketch: the designer sketches your outfit, and nothing is cut until you approve it.

  3. Confirm: you see the price before anything is cut; payment is in full in advance.

  4. Making: our karigars embroider it, made to your measurements.

  5. Shipping or trial: we ship to your Canadian address, or you have a trial at the store when you land; at the trial we show you how to drape the dupatta. You get a delivery date once the design is approved.
