Custom Lehenga Canada: Bridal Outfits Made in India for You

Elegant Wine Net Crop Top Lehenga from House of Daisy

A custom lehenga Canada brides can plan from home starts with a video call, not a trip to India. Many of the brides we work with in Canada live in the Toronto and Brampton area, or around Vancouver and Surrey, and come from Punjabi, Gujarati and many other Indian families. They want a lehenga made in India, with the embroidery and the meaning they grew up around, but cut for their body and their Canadian wedding.

Designing for a Canadian wedding season

Canada gives brides two very different wedding seasons, and the outfit should match:

  • Summer weddings: outdoor mehndis, garden photos and banquet halls on warm evenings. Georgette, net and lighter embroidery keep you comfortable.

  • Winter weddings: snow outside, heated halls inside, and cold walks between the car and the door. Velvet, raw silk, full sleeves and a lined skirt help. A second dupatta in velvet or a Kashmiri-style shawl becomes part of the look rather than a coat thrown over the top. Ask the designer to plan where the shawl sits in your photos, so the embroidery on the blouse still shows.

For a winter bride, our Kashmiri bridal lehenga post shows how tilla and aari work look on warmer fabrics.

For Sikh and Punjabi brides

Many Punjabi Sikh families in Canada celebrate the Anand Karaj, often in the morning at the gurdwara, followed by a reception in the evening. Many brides choose a lehenga or a suit with a long kurti for the ceremony, often with the dupatta draped over the head. Our post on the Anand Karaj bridal lehenga explains the choices.

Some brides like the laavan embroidered on the dupatta. If you would like that, please confirm the exact words and the Gurmukhi spelling with your granthi or a family elder before we begin. We place it on the dupatta, worn on the head or shoulders, and never on the hem. Read more about a laavaan phere dupatta. Some families prefer phulkari motifs instead of words, and that is lovely too.

Video calls from Toronto, Brampton and Vancouver

India is well ahead of Canada on the clock. For a custom lehenga Toronto brides often take the design call early in the morning, which is our Indian evening. Brides in British Columbia sometimes find a late evening call works, landing in our Indian morning. For a custom lehenga Brampton families sometimes join the call together, with the bride, her mother and a sister around one screen, and that is welcome.

Everything from the first conversation to design approval happens on video call and WhatsApp video. See how a video call lehenga consultation works.

Fit, shipping and customs

Our designer guides you through your measurements on a video call. If you are travelling to India before the wedding, you can have a trial at our Golf Course Road store in Gurugram when you land, with alterations. We also leave extra margin in the seams so a tailor near you can make final changes.

Many brides ask us to have their lehenga ship to Canada directly, and we do: every province is covered by our worldwide shipping. For lehenga Canada shipping, the bride pays the Canadian customs duty and import taxes when the parcel arrives. What you pay can depend on the declared value and the type of garment, and rules change, so check the Canadian government's customs website before you order.
