Indian Designer for Wedding Wear: How to Brief Your Designer

Elegant Grey Net Embroidered Saree from House of Daisy

Working with an Indian designer for wedding outfits goes faster and feels easier when you arrive with a clear brief. You do not need to know exactly what you want; you need to know what you love, what you dislike and what the day involves. House of Daisy is an independent Indian designer label from Gurugram, and the first design consultation with us is free, in the store or on video. This checklist will help you get the most from it, wherever you book.

When to bring a designer in

As soon as you know your functions and roughly when they are. Made-to-measure work takes time, the delivery date depends on the design, and if you live abroad, shipping time is added to that. Starting early also leaves room to change your mind, which nearly every bride does at least once. Our bridal lehenga timeline sets out the stages.

What to gather before the first conversation

  • Your list of functions: roka, haldi, mehndi, sangeet, wedding, reception, and anything else, with whether each is indoors or outdoors, day or night.

  • References: screenshots, a Pinterest board, photos from family weddings or an AI image you created. See our post on using a dream lehenga AI image as a starting point.

  • Family pieces: a mother's saree, a grandmother's dupatta, jewellery you plan to wear, so the colours and metal tones can be matched.

  • Must-haves and no-gos: a colour you have always wanted, a neckline you never wear, sleeves or no sleeves.

  • Words and symbols: names, initials, a wedding date, a line of poetry, or a motif with family meaning.

  • How you want to feel: free to dance, regal, light, traditional. This guides weight and silhouette more than any picture.

What the designer will ask you

Expect questions that seem small but shape everything. How long will you wear the outfit? Will you sit on the floor for the ceremony? Is anyone else in the family wearing a strong colour? Are there colours your family avoids for a wedding? Will your dupatta be on your head, and for how long? If any words are sacred, such as a mantra, a shlok or the laavan, the designer will suggest you confirm the exact text with your family elder, priest or granthi, and will place it on the dupatta rather than anywhere that touches the floor.

Choosing among Indian designers for wedding lehenga work

When you compare indian designers for wedding lehenga orders, look past the photographs. Ask who will actually design your piece, whether you will see a sketch before anything is cut, and how fit is handled if you live far away. Ask when you will see the cost and what the payment terms are. Clear, early answers to these questions say more than a polished portfolio. Our guides on how to choose a wedding dress designer and the questions to ask a fashion designer go further.

An Indian designer for lehenga, and everything around it

Many brides come looking for an indian designer for lehenga alone and then realise the same person can plan the rest: the mehndi sharara, the cocktail gown, the reception saree, even outfits for the mother of the bride and the bridesmaids. Planning together keeps the colours coherent and means your measurements are taken once. At House of Daisy, our designer Bhumika Sehgal designs each outfit, and our karigars embroider it to your measurements. At the trial, we show you how to drape each dupatta or saree. We design and make the clothes; styling of hair, makeup and jewellery is outside what we do.

How it works

  1. Book a free consultation: at our Golf Course Road store in Gurugram, or by video call or WhatsApp video on WhatsApp +91 92896 79666. Send your references beforehand if you can.

  2. Sketch: the designer turns your brief into a sketch for approval.

  3. Confirm: you see the price before anything is cut; payment is in full in advance.

  4. Making: our karigars embroider the approved design, made to your measurements.

  5. Trial or shipping: a trial at the store if you are in India, with alterations, or shipping worldwide with extra seam margin for a local tailor. Customs duty and import taxes in your country are paid by you.
