Haldi theme ideas: ten themes and the women's outfits for each

Here are ten haldi theme ideas, each paired with the outfits the women of the family can wear, so you can pick one and move straight to ordering. At House of Daisy, our showroom on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, these are the directions families are asking about this season; every one can be done in any colour you want, and customs vary by family and community, so adapt freely.

Which classic haldi themes still work?

1. Marigold and brass

Yellow, saffron and rust, like a garland. Women wear mustard suits, marigold shararas and yellow sarees with rust borders. Gota patti suits it beautifully.

2. All yellow, many shades

Everyone in yellow, from lemon to turmeric. The trick is assigning shades so no two women standing together match exactly.

3. Yellow and white

Crisp and summery. Ivory chikankari suits with yellow dupattas for elders, yellow lehengas with white borders for sisters.

Which softer themes are families choosing?

4. Pastel garden

Powder pink, mint, lilac and butter yellow. Floral embroidery and light shararas; ideal for a lawn haldi.

5. Pink haldi

Blush to rani pink across the family. Crop-top lehengas for cousins, pink anarkalis or suits for aunts.

6. Lavender

Lilac through deep purple, sometimes with a yellow accent so the haldi still feels like a haldi. Chanderi and organza drape gently in these shades.

Which bold or playful themes stand out?

7. Carnival or mela

Every bright colour at once, with mirror work, gota and printed fabrics. Ghararas, chaniya cholis and short kurtas in clashing colours look festive rather than messy when everyone commits.

8. Boho

Flowy shararas, co-ord sets, floral lehengas and loose tiers in earthy and sun-washed shades. Relaxed and photogenic outdoors.

9. Radha-Krishna

Peacock blues and greens with yellow, and motifs such as peacocks, lotus and flutes. Motifs can be hand-embroidered to order on made-to-order family outfits.

10. Monsoon green

For a rainy-season haldi: leaf green, lime and yellow, in quick-drying light fabrics and shorter hemlines.

How do you choose between these ideas?

  • Look at the bride's outfit first: the theme should flatter it, not compete.
  • Think about the setting: pastels and boho love daylight lawns; carnival and pink carry indoors.
  • Think about the elders: choose a theme they will enjoy too, with a comfortable option for them in it.
  • Keep the rule short: "pastels with floral work" is easy; a five-colour chart is not.

How do you make the outfits for any of these themes?

One consultation can plan the whole family's coordinated women's outfits, with one palette, different styles and who wears which shade. Each woman can choose her own silhouette in a shared fabric and colour story, and one fabric can be made into any style. A group can book one styling appointment together, with no minimum group size, and you can mix ready and made-to-order pieces freely. Relatives in other cities can get swatches from our shade cards by courier, and photos, before ordering.

Pieces we make to order are made to your measurements and hand-embroidered in our atelier. Start about four weeks before the first function for lighter work, and about eight weeks for heavy hand embroidery. Browse our haldi collection, see how group orders work, and read our guide to outfits for the bride's mother and sisters.

Common questions

Which haldi theme is easiest for a big family?

"All yellow, many shades" or "yellow and white". Everyone can find a piece quickly, and the photos still look planned.

Can we mix two themes?

It is usually clearer to keep one theme and use the second only as an accent, such as a pink border on yellow outfits.

Can you make a carnival theme with mirror work?

Yes. Mirror work and gota patti are hand-embroidered on our made-to-order pieces.

Haldi theme mein elders ke liye kya rakhein?

Unke liye halki saree ya suit, theme ke colour mein, ek matching border ke saath.

Do you ship family outfits to different cities?

Yes. Finished group outfits go to each person's own address, anywhere in the world.
