A destination wedding dress code saves your guests a lot of guessing. They are packing for several functions in a place they may not know, and a clear line on the invitation tells them what to bring and what to leave at home. It also helps the photographs, because a weekend with a planned palette looks calm and deliberate rather than random.
Why a dress code helps at a destination
At home, a guest who gets it wrong can go back and change. At a destination, whatever they packed is what they wear. A good dress code does three things:
It tells guests the formality of each function, from relaxed brunch to black-tie reception.
It warns them about the setting: sand, grass, stone steps, sea breeze or a cool hill evening.
It gives a colour direction, so the group looks good together in photographs.
Destination wedding dress code wording
Keep it short and friendly. A few sample lines you can adapt:
Welcome party: "Sunset casual. Light colours, breezy fabrics and flat shoes for the lawn."
Haldi: "Yellows and florals. Wear something you do not mind getting a little haldi on."
Mehndi: "Bright and festive. Indian or Indo-western, and comfortable enough to sit on the floor."
Sangeet: "Glam Indian. Shine, sequins and shoes you can dance in."
Wedding: "Traditional Indian. Pastels for the day ceremony; please avoid red, which the bride is wearing."
Reception: "Evening formal. Gowns, sarees, bandhgalas and suits."
Pool party: "Pool party. Swimwear with a cover-up, and something easy for lunch."
Add a weather note where it matters, such as "Ceremony on the beach: flats or block heels" or "Evenings can be cool: bring a shawl". Keep weather notes general and suggest guests check the forecast for the dates.
Where the bride fits in
The bride follows the code, but in a richer version of it. If the welcome party is "sunset casual", she might wear an ivory gown or a light lehenga with more embroidery than anyone else. If the sangeet is "glam Indian", her lehenga carries the most shine in the room. Many brides choose a colour for each function that sits just outside the guest palette, so they stand out in every frame. Our guide to destination wedding outfits for bride plans her looks function by function.
Outfits for all wedding events, for family and friends
The closest family and the bride's friends often want something made rather than bought, so their outfits match the theme exactly. We make coordinated outfits for mothers, sisters, bridesmaids and the bride's group, planned around the same palette. You can read about custom bridesmaid dresses and bride squad outfits, and see how a group order works. For the bride's own list across every function, see our post on a dress for all wedding function days.
Tips for sharing the dress code
Send it early, with the invitation or save-the-date, so guests travelling from abroad can shop before they leave.
Put the full list on one page of the wedding website or in one message, with a picture or two of the mood for each function.
Say what to avoid as well as what to wear, especially the bride's colour for each function.
Mention footwear for sand, grass and stone; it matters more than people expect.
Keep it inclusive. Suggest Indian and Western options for guests who do not own Indian wear.
How to order
Share your dress code, the place and the dates on WhatsApp +91 92896 79666, along with any references for your own looks and the family's. We plan everything on video call. Our designer shows you the price before anything is cut, and payment is in full in advance. Measurements are guided on video, or taken at a trial in our Golf Course Road store if you are in India, and we leave extra margin in the seams for a tailor near you. Our karigars embroider each piece, and the designer gives a delivery date once the designs are approved. We ship worldwide; if a parcel goes abroad, the person receiving it pays their country's customs duty and import taxes. Start early, because a family set takes planning.
