Bridal Lehenga Australia: Ordering a Custom Lehenga from India

Pink Net Lehenga from House of Daisy

Planning a bridal lehenga Australia style means thinking about seasons that run the other way round from India, outdoor venues, and a family that may be spread across several cities. Many of the brides we work with in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth come from Punjabi, Gujarati, South Indian and many other families. They want a lehenga made in India, designed with them on video call and cut to their measurements.

Why brides in Australia look to India

Searching for a lehenga online Australia shoppers often find ready pieces in a few standard sizes, with little room to change the colour or the embroidery. A made-to-measure lehenga is different. You choose the silhouette, the colour and every embroidered detail, and our karigars embroider it to your measurements. You can include your names in English or Devanagari, a peacock or lotus motif, or a small doli scene in the border.

Dressing for an Australian wedding season

Australian seasons shape the outfit more than many brides expect:

  • Summer weddings: the warm months bring outdoor ceremonies, vineyards, gardens and beaches. Choose georgette, organza or net, with lighter embroidery and a breathable lining. Keep the heaviest work for the evening reception, when it is cooler. A crop top lehenga is a light choice for a daytime mehndi.

  • Spring and autumn weddings: many couples choose these milder months. Raw silk and heavier zardozi are comfortable, and the light is soft for photos.

  • Winter evenings: the southern cities can turn cool at night. Full sleeves, velvet and a second dupatta or a shawl help.

Colour also changes with the light. A day ceremony outdoors and a night reception indoors may suit different shades. Our post on bridal lehenga colour for a day or night wedding explains how to choose.

South Indian, Punjabi and Gujarati brides in Australia

Australia's Indian community is wide, and so are the bridal styles. South Indian brides often want silk with temple-style borders; see our South Indian bridal lehenga designs. Punjabi brides may want phulkari or a lehenga with a kurti for the Anand Karaj. Gujarati brides often ask for a dupatta planned for their family's drape. Mixed and fusion weddings are common too, and we design for both families.

Video calls from Sydney and Melbourne

Australia is ahead of India on the clock, so an afternoon or early evening call on the east coast falls in our Indian late morning or afternoon. Brides in Perth have it even easier, as the gap is smaller. For a custom lehenga Sydney brides often book a call after lunch; for a custom lehenga Melbourne brides tend to choose the same window, with their mother joining from home.

The whole design conversation, from the first call to final approval, happens on video call and WhatsApp video. Share a Pinterest board, a sketch, family photographs or an old saree you would like to rework.

Fit, shipping and customs

Our designer guides you through every measurement on a video call. If you are visiting India before the wedding, you can have a trial at our Golf Course Road store in Gurugram when you land, with alterations made there. We also leave extra margin in the seams so a tailor near you can make the final adjustments.

We ship worldwide, including to Australia. The bride pays Australian customs duty and import taxes when the parcel arrives. What you pay can depend on the declared value and the type of garment. Rules change, so look at the Australian government's customs and biosecurity guidance before you order. Our post on lehenga international shipping covers the general process.
