Best friend wedding outfit ideas: ten complete looks

The best friend wedding outfit ideas that work are complete looks, with the dupatta, blouse and finishing touch already decided, not just a garment name. Below are ten we put together with friends of the bride at House of Daisy, our showroom on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, each with a line on when it suits you.

Which ten looks work for a best friend?

  1. Mirror-work sharara with a short kurta. For the mehndi. It catches the light in daytime photos and lets you sit cross-legged for hours.
  2. Crop-top lehenga with a cape instead of a dupatta. For the sangeet. Nothing to hold, nothing to slip while you dance.
  3. Pastel anarkali with a sheer dupatta. For the roka or engagement at home. Graceful and easy to sit in during the ceremony.
  4. Silk saree with a contrast blouse. For the wedding morning or the pheras, if you enjoy draping.
  5. Jacket lehenga. For a winter wedding night. The jacket keeps you warm and looks finished in every frame.
  6. Pre-draped saree with a belt. For the day you are helping the bride: it stays put while you run between rooms.
  7. Light cotton kurta set with gota patti trims. For the haldi, where turmeric may well land on you.
  8. Sequinned saree gown. For the reception. Evening shine with the ease of a single garment.
  9. Indo-western jacket set. For a cocktail night or a late after-party.
  10. Double-dupatta lehenga. For the wedding day itself, if you want one look that feels truly special but still sits behind the bride.

How do I choose between them?

Start with your role. If you are performing at the sangeet, the cape lehenga moves to the top of the list. If the bride has asked you to manage the bridal room, the pre-draped saree and the cotton kurta set earn their place. Then check the venue: a lawn function in the afternoon is not the place for heavy velvet, and a winter night in an open courtyard is not the time for a sleeveless blouse.

Finally, think about the photos. As her best friend you will be near her in many of them, so ask what colours she is wearing for each function and pick shades that sit well beside hers.

Can I have one of these looks made in my colour?

Yes. Any of the ten can be made to order in the colour you want, from our fabric shade cards, and many shades can be seen ready at the showroom. The first design consultation is free, in person or on a video call. You choose fabric, colour, neckline, sleeves and embroidery one by one, our designers share a sketch for your approval, and you see an embroidery sample before the whole piece is made. Pieces we make to order are made to your measurements and hand-embroidered in our atelier. Mirror work, gota patti, chikankari, zardozi, dabka and aari are all possible.

For one festive outfit, order three to four weeks ahead. If your date is less than three weeks away, we will point you to ready pieces, as we do not take rush orders.

What if the whole friends' group wants matching looks?

That is where these ten become a set. Each friend can choose her own look from the list, all in a shared fabric and colour story, so you match without wearing a uniform. A group can book one styling appointment together, and there is no minimum group size. Start about four weeks before the first function for lighter work, and about eight weeks for heavy hand embroidery. Read more on our group order page, and see our guide to coordinating outfits around the bride.
