An Indian wedding in Italy often looks like a painting: a villa among cypress trees, a lake with mountains behind it, or a terrace above the sea. The setting is old stone, soft evening light and long dinners outdoors, and your outfits need to belong in it without fighting the summer heat. Here is how we plan a bride's wardrobe for an Italian wedding, region by region and function by function.
Choosing a region: Tuscany, the lakes, the coast or the south
An Indian wedding in Tuscany: villas, vineyards, olive groves and gravel paths. Gravel and lawn are hard on long trails, so keep hems clear of the ground and plan block heels.
The northern lakes: water, terraced gardens and boats. Evenings by the water can turn cool, so plan a jacket, a cape or a heavier dupatta for after sunset.
The Amalfi Coast: terraces, cliffs and a great many steps. A light skirt and a well-pinned dupatta matter more than volume.
Puglia and Sicily: white stone, whitewashed towns and strong sun. Pale fabrics glow here, and breathable bases matter most.
Summer is popular and often hot by day; late spring and early autumn are usually milder. Check the forecast for your dates before you choose fabric weights.
Colours that suit Italian light
Italian stone and plaster are warm, so ivory, champagne, sage, blush and dusty rose look calm and soft against them. Terracotta and olive pick up the rooftops and the groves. For the pheras, many brides keep a traditional red or maroon, which stands out beautifully against pale stone. Old frescoes are a good colour reference too: deep lapis blue, faded gold, rose and sea green. Save pictures of walls, ceilings and tiles you love on your trip or online, and the designer will build a palette that carries across every function.
Fabrics and embroidery for an Italian summer
For daytime functions, organza, georgette, chiffon and light silk keep you cool. Our karigars can work fine zardozi, aari or chikankari that reads as delicate rather than heavy, which sits well against a European backdrop. If you want one rich, heavy piece, keep it for the evening wedding or the reception, when the air cools. Velvet only makes sense for a late autumn evening, and even then check the forecast first. Our post on the lightweight bridal lehenga explains how to keep the look bridal while losing the weight.
An Indian destination wedding in Italy, function by function
Welcome dinner: a long gown or an Indo-western cape set suits a long table under string lights.
Haldi and mehndi: a sharara or a light crop-top lehenga in yellow or lime. A lemon-print or citrus theme is a playful nod to the Italian coast.
Sangeet: a net lehenga or a dhoti-style set you can dance in on a terrace.
Wedding: your bridal lehenga, in red, ivory or a pastel, with the weight placed where you want it.
Church or white-dress ceremony: if your partner's family is Christian, we also make gowns. See our Indian Christian wedding lehenga post for ideas on doing both.
Reception: a gown, a saree drape or a second, lighter lehenga.
If two ceremonies fall on the same day, plan the change carefully: a blouse that fastens quickly, a dupatta that pins in one place, jewellery that works with both. Our post on the Indian wedding outfit change walks through it.
Getting everything to Italy
We make every outfit in India. We ship it worldwide to wherever you live, or you collect it from our Golf Course Road store in Gurugram before you fly. Nobody from our team travels with you, so try each look on at home, practise the dupatta pinning with whoever will help you on the day, and label each garment bag by function. Check your airline's rules for carrying a bridal lehenga, and the customs rules where you live, as both change. Our destination wedding packing list for the bride helps you put it all together.
How to order
Start on WhatsApp +91 92896 79666 with your region, your dates and the list of functions. Our designer plans the full wardrobe with you on video call or at the store, guides you through your measurements and shows you the price before anything is cut. Payment is in full in advance. Our karigars embroider each piece to your measurements, and we leave extra margin in the seams so a tailor near you can make small final adjustments; if you are in India before the wedding, come in for a trial and alterations. The designer gives you a delivery date once the design is approved, so start as early as you can. If we ship to you abroad, you pay your own country's customs duty and import taxes on arrival.
