Indian Destination Wedding in Vietnam: The Bride's Outfit Guide

Baby Blue Tissue Siroski Saree from House of Daisy

An Indian destination wedding in Vietnam is a newer choice, and a lovely one: long beaches, limestone islands rising from green water, and old towns strung with silk lanterns. Couples often pair a beach resort for the ceremonies with an evening in a lantern-lit old quarter for photos. The climate is warm and humid for much of the year, so the bride's outfits need to be planned for it from the start.

Where couples go

  • Da Nang and the central coast: long beaches, mountains close behind, and the old town of Hoi An nearby with its yellow walls, wooden shopfronts and lanterns.

  • Phu Quoc and the southern islands: island beaches and sunsets over the sea.

  • Nha Trang: a bay lined with beaches.

  • Hanoi and the north: city receptions, lakes, and the limestone islands of Ha Long Bay for a boat or photo day. The north has a cooler season that the south does not.

The rainy seasons differ between the north, the centre and the south, so the right month depends on where you are marrying. Check the forecast for your exact region and dates before you choose fabrics.

Lanterns, lotus and silk: ideas to borrow

Vietnam is full of inspiration for an Indian bride. Silk lanterns in saffron, crimson, jade and gold make a ready-made palette for a mehndi or sangeet. The lotus is loved in both cultures, and our karigars can embroider lotus buds and leaves along a dupatta border or a skirt hem; our lotus motif lehenga post shows how. The long, fitted tunic worn over flowing trousers in Vietnam has a lot in common with an Indian kurta and palazzo set, and that shape can inspire a graceful Indo-western outfit for a welcome dinner or a city evening. Read our Indo-western dresses post for shapes we make.

Fabrics for heat, humidity and rain

  • Breathable bases: georgette, organza, chiffon, mul and light silk for almost every function.

  • Embroidery placement: keep the richest work on the blouse, the waistband and the dupatta border, so the skirt stays light.

  • Rain plans: if a shower is possible, choose fabrics that dry quickly and a hem that clears the ground.

  • Cooler northern evenings: for a wedding in the north in its cooler months, add a jacket, cape or shawl you are happy to be photographed in.

  • Sand: ankle-length skirts with a light can-can, and no long trails on the beach.

Function by function

  • Welcome dinner: an Indo-western tunic and trouser set, a cape set or a flowing gown.

  • Haldi: a simple yellow cotton or mul outfit.

  • Mehndi: a sleeveless or short-sleeved crop-top lehenga in jade, saffron or lantern pink.

  • Pool party: a short dress or a co-ord. See bride dress for pool party ideas.

  • Sangeet: sequins and mirror work that sparkle like the lanterns.

  • Wedding: a breathable bridal lehenga in red, rani pink, ivory or jade, ankle length for the beach.

  • Reception: a gown or a saree drape in chiffon or georgette.

Getting the outfits to Vietnam

We make every outfit in India and ship it worldwide, or you collect it from our Golf Course Road store in Gurugram before you travel. No one from our team travels with you, so wear each look at home before the trip, practise the dupatta pinning, and pack a small kit of safety pins and dupatta pins. Check your airline's rules for carrying a bridal lehenga, and the customs rules of the countries involved, because they change and differ.

How to order

Message us on WhatsApp +91 92896 79666 with your region, dates and the functions you are planning. Our designer plans the wardrobe with you on a video call or at the store, guides you through your measurements and shows you the price before anything is cut. Payment is in full in advance. Our karigars embroider each piece to your measurements, and we leave extra margin in the seams so a tailor near you can make final adjustments; if you are in India before the wedding, you can have a trial at the store. You get a delivery date once the design is approved. If we ship to you abroad, you pay your own country's customs duty and import taxes on arrival.
