Indian Designers in Dubai: Your Bridal Outfit Designed in India

Teal Blue Silk Saree from House of Daisy

Many brides searching for Indian designers in Dubai want the same thing: an outfit designed by someone who knows Indian bridal craft closely, made to their own measurements, with no guesswork about fit. House of Daisy is an independent Indian designer label from Gurugram, and our designer, Bhumika Sehgal, works with brides in the UAE on video call and WhatsApp video. Here is how that works, and what to think about for a wedding in the Gulf.

Why brides in the UAE look to a designer in India

Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah have a large Indian and South Asian community, and it is easy to start wedding shopping there. What many brides still want is a designer who plans the embroidery from the first sketch, and karigars who can embroider a name, a family motif or a line of poetry in the script the family uses. When brides in Dubai search for Indian designer clothes, it is often about exactly that: a piece made for one person rather than picked from a rail.

Working with a designer in India from the UAE is also practical because the two are close in time. India is a little ahead of UAE time, so a call after work in Dubai still reaches our Gurugram studio well within its opening hours, which run 11:00 to 21:00 daily.

Dressing for heat, air conditioning and long evenings

Weddings in the UAE are often planned for the cooler part of the year, but the days can still be warm and the indoor halls strongly air-conditioned. That shapes the outfit:

  • Breathable base fabrics: georgette, chiffon, organza and soft silk for daytime functions such as the haldi and mehndi, with heavier silk or velvet kept for an air-conditioned evening.

  • Embroidery placed with weight in mind: dense zardozi on the border and blouse, lighter scattered work higher on the skirt, so the lehenga does not become a burden over a long night.

  • Linings that do not trap heat: soft cotton or silk linings against the skin.

  • A second dupatta or shawl: useful when a hall runs cold after a warm arrival outdoors.

For a full plan across the functions, see our guide to a big fat Indian wedding in Dubai and our notes on a lightweight bridal lehenga.

Many traditions, one wardrobe

Indian designers in UAE cities and in India alike are asked for very different outfits depending on the family. A Punjabi bride might want a phulkari dupatta for the chunni ceremony. A Malayali or Tamil bride might choose silk with temple-style borders. A Muslim bride might plan a sharara for the nikah and a lehenga for the walima. A couple from two cultures might want one outfit for each ceremony.

Our karigars embroider in English, Hindi, Gurmukhi and Urdu scripts, so a name, the nikah date, or a line of poetry or a dua the family chooses can sit on the dupatta. For any sacred words, confirm the exact text and spelling with your family elder, priest or granthi first, and keep it on the dupatta rather than near the hem.

Fit when you live in the UAE

Fit is the first question every bride abroad asks. There are three parts to the answer:

  1. Video measurements: our designer guides you through each measurement on a video call, with a soft tape and someone to help. Our measurement guide shows what is taken and why.

  2. A trial if you visit India: if you are coming to India before the wedding, you can have a trial at our Golf Course Road store in Gurugram when you land, with alterations.

  3. Seam margin: we leave extra margin in the seams so a tailor near you in the UAE can make final adjustments.

Shipping to the UAE and customs

We ship worldwide, including to the UAE. You pay your own country's customs duty and import taxes when the parcel arrives. What you pay depends on things such as the declared value and the type of garment, and the rules change, so check the UAE customs website before you order. If you would rather carry the outfit home after a trial, read how to travel with a bridal lehenga and check your airline's rules before you fly.

Shopping for the whole family too? Our guide to Indian designer clothes online explains how ordering from a distance works for every outfit, not just the bride's.

How it works

  1. Free consultation: message us on WhatsApp +91 92896 79666 to book a free first consultation on video call or WhatsApp video, or visit our store in Gurugram. Share pictures, sketches, family photos or an old saree.

  2. Sketch: Bhumika Sehgal draws a sketch of your outfit for your approval before anything is cut.

  3. Cost and payment: the designer shows you the price before anything is cut, and payment is in full in advance.

  4. Making: our karigars embroider it to your measurements, and the designer gives you a delivery date once the design is approved.

  5. Trial or shipping: a trial in Gurugram if you are visiting, or we ship it to you in the UAE.

Start early, especially if the outfit carries heavy embroidery, so there is time for the sketch, the making and the journey.
