Destination Wedding in Pushkar: A Bride's Outfit Guide by the Lake

Radiant Orange Chiffon Saree from House of Daisy

A destination wedding in Pushkar feels different from a palace wedding elsewhere in Rajasthan. It is a small pilgrim town wrapped around a sacred lake, with whitewashed ghats, temple bells at dusk and the desert just beyond. Many couples choose it for a more spiritual, intimate wedding. That mood should guide your outfits: traditional, graceful and easy to move in, rather than the heaviest look you can find.

The mood of Pushkar

Pushkar is a place of worship first. Many families plan their functions around that, keeping them traditional and respectful, and some choose a simple puja at the lake before the wedding. Dress in a way that feels right if you visit the ghats: shoulders covered, a dupatta you can draw over your head, and footwear you can slip off easily. For anything on the ghats or near temples, ask your family or priest what is appropriate.

Colours from the town itself

Pushkar is surrounded by rose fields, and its markets are full of marigold, saffron and pink. The lake turns gold and then lilac at sunset. These make a beautiful palette.

  • Rose pink and blush: a natural choice for the mehndi or a lakeside pre-wedding shoot, with small rose motifs our karigars embroider in thread and zari.

  • Marigold and saffron: joyful for the haldi and very fitting in a temple town.

  • Ivory and white: lovely against the white ghats in daylight, with a gold border so you do not disappear into the walls.

  • Deep red or maroon: the classic wedding colour, warm against the desert at dusk.

Sarees and lehengas for a temple-town wedding

A saree suits Pushkar beautifully. A silk or chiffon saree with a rich border, its blouse stitched to your measurements, moves gracefully on steps and drapes easily over the head. Many brides wear a saree for a puja or the morning function and a lehenga for the pheras.

For the wedding lehenga, think traditional: a full kali skirt, a long bordered dupatta and embroidery inspired by temple architecture, lotus motifs or the lake. If your family would like sacred words on the dupatta, such as a mantra or shlok, confirm the exact words and spelling with your family elder or priest; we place sacred text on the dupatta, never on the skirt hem. See our mantra dupatta post. Some families prefer motifs instead, and that is equally beautiful.

Functions and practical choices

  • Haldi: a yellow or saffron cotton-silk outfit you will not mind getting stained. Our haldi outfit post has ideas.

  • Mehndi: a light lehenga or anarkali in rose or marigold, comfortable for sitting for hours.

  • Sangeet: mirror work and a flared skirt for dancing in a lit courtyard or under the open sky.

  • The wedding: a traditional lehenga or a heavy silk saree. Keep the hem off the ground if you will walk on sand or old stone, and skip a long trail.

  • Farewell: a light suit or saree for travelling home.

Desert weather

Pushkar sits on the edge of the desert. In the cooler months, many couples find warm days and cold nights, so plan a shawl, a velvet jacket or a full-sleeve blouse for evening functions. Summer is hot, and breathable fabrics matter most then. The town can be busy during festival and fair seasons, so check what is happening in town and the forecast for your dates. Getting your outfits to Pushkar

We design and make every outfit and ship it to you, or you collect it from our Golf Course Road store in Gurugram before you travel. We do not send a dresser or draper with you, so practise saree draping at home with whoever will help you, and pin a photo of each finished look inside its garment bag.
