A good bhabhi lehenga choli is really three decisions made well: the length and cut of the choli, the fullness of the skirt, and the size and drape of the dupatta. Get those right and the outfit feels graceful, festive and completely yours. At House of Daisy on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, we walk you through each one at the showroom, with ready pieces to try and made-to-order options when you want something specific.
What makes a lehenga choli feel like a bhabhi's look?
There is no rule, and every family sees it a little differently. What most women mean by the "bhabhi look" is a classic, well-finished lehenga choli worn with confidence: a choli that fits beautifully, a skirt with movement, and a dupatta draped with some care, often over the shoulder or the head for rituals. It sits between the bride's heavy bridal lehenga and the lighter, trend-led looks of younger cousins. Customs around draping and covering vary by family and community, so start from what your family does and what you enjoy wearing.
How long should the choli be?
Choli length is personal comfort, nothing more. Your options:
- Classic short choli that ends just above the waist, the most traditional line.
- Mid-length choli that meets the skirt with a small gap, easy to sit and move in.
- Long choli or peplum that overlaps the skirt, for women who prefer full cover through the day.
On a ready lehenga, the blouse can be made to your choice, so you are not stuck with the length on the hanger. Cups or padding can be added to any blouse, ready or made to order, and sleeves can be added or lengthened on most ready pieces, usually within about a week.
How much flare is right?
Flare decides how the lehenga moves and how tiring it is to wear. A full kalidar skirt with many panels swings beautifully at the sangeet and photographs well on stage. An A-line skirt is lighter, easier in crowds and kinder for a long day of hosting. Our ready lehengas have a detachable can-can, so you can wear full volume for the evening and take it out for a daytime ritual. At the showroom, ready lehengas can be altered in length, waist and flare, usually within about a week.
Which dupatta drape suits me?
Think about what the day asks of you:
- Over one shoulder, pinned: the most practical for serving and greeting.
- Across both shoulders: elegant for a seated ritual or a family portrait.
- Over the head: for families where the bhabhi covers her head at certain moments.
We can add hidden loops or hooks so the dupatta pins securely without damaging the fabric. If you cover your head and want to keep your main dupatta for show, a second dupatta for covering the head is made to order to match a ready lehenga.
Ready or made to order?
Browse the lehenga cholis in our wedding collection before you visit, then try them at the showroom. Made to order makes sense when you want a particular shade from our shade cards, a specific neckline, or embroidery placed exactly where you like it. Pieces we make to order are made to your measurements and hand-embroidered in our atelier. In a free first consultation you choose fabric, colour, neckline, sleeves and embroidery one by one; our designers share a sketch for approval, and you see an embroidery sample before the full piece is made. For a single festive outfit, order three to four weeks ahead. If the whole family is ordering together, start about four weeks before the first function for lighter work and about eight weeks for heavy hand embroidery. Our guide to family outfits planned with the bride explains how we coordinate a household.
